Bill Atchison's psychotherapy offers a sole practitioner environment maximizing privacy and confidentiality in a comfortable, accessible setting.
He strongly believes that short term, symptom driven, results oriented therapy with a positive, proactive, problem solving approach will benefit most clients.
His model incorporates a through assessment, and a negotiated treatment plan, and a treatment model which fosters client autonomy and personal responsibility.
How can you know if your therapist is using the best therapeutic methods to help you with your problem?
- If the methods are "evidence based" you can be assured that your problems are being addressed with scientifically validated methods.
- An increasing expectation in mental health is that the therapist demonstrates that the therapy being given has been demonstrated by research to be effective with the client's problems.
- Therapists often use only those methods they were trained in, or prefer.
- Often, the client assumes the methods being offered are the best one for their problems.
- Therapy often begins without addressing how well the methods being used work for problem being presented.
- The therapist should discuss with the client what methods are known to work through research, books, and the internet.
- The therapist may address their training and experience with the specific methods above.
- The client should have a clear choice if they can work with these methods.
- If the therapist does not offer a known best treatment, or the client elects not to use these methods—an outside referral should be made.
- The written, and signed, treatment plan specifically addresses these methods.
Your treatment plan should address: How the agreed upon treatment will work for your problems, demonstrated by research findings, and the client's agreement to actively participate in the methods. Current Evidence Based
